Try Golden Milk!

I was first introduced to “Golden Milk” back in August of last year by Chef Pieter Sypesteyn (you can check out the post and video here). At first I didn’t think much about the benefits but I loved the taste and often tried to drink a cup as part of my day.

After a triathlon I began to have some minor knee pain. While I found that there are many causes, one caught my attention; inflammation. I found that natural inflammation is good for your body. You body uses inflammation to heal itself. I also discovered that what you eat and drink can provide inflammation that isn’t good for your body. It was then that I remember what Pieter had mentioned about the benefits of Golden Milk when it comes to reducing inflammation. Here are a few other benefits:

Reducing inflammation
Preventing cell damage
Improving mood
Supporting brain function and improving memory
Preventing heart disease
Possibly reducing the risk of cancer
Lowering blood sugar levels
Boosting the immune system

During Christmas break (2020) I decided to add Golden Milk to my morning routine. Every morning I wake up, start the coffee (good coffee like, Bluebonnet Coffee), and make some sweet Golden Milk! The photo above highlights a few of the ingredients I use everyday.

1 tsp organic turmeric
2 pinches of pepper
1/4 ground ginger
5 shakes of organic cinnamon (you may have to adjust to your liking)
2 1/2 tbsp organic blue agave (you can use honey, stevia, or maple syrup)
1 cup of almond milk (i started with oat milk and moved to almond because it has less sugar)
Place ingredients in a pan and heat together until all ingredients dissolve together.
I drink while it is hot. Very great! I have made and refrigerated and reheated in the microwave also.

Golden Milk should not and may not be the “fix all” for pain or aches that you may have. Please see a doctor when you feel something isn’t right. Golden Milk for me has shown to be a great supplement as I drink before every run. Give it a try! I would love to know what you think and how it works for you. Get out and go!
