Eyes On The Prize

I am so excited for Saturday! This Saturday the Dam 09 sprint triathlon is on! As I have said before, for me the best part this year is that a few of my close friends are participating with me. Let’s go dudes! Today, I took the morning to bike and run. While I was running my last mile, this question hit me; Why in the world are you doing this Bobby?

For starters, let me tell you that I am not concerned with first place. I have no desire or drive to become a professional triathlete. My goal is not to collect a medal or any other kind of accolades. I will be swimming (sinking), biking and running this coming Saturday so that my wife, daughters, family, and community would see my heart to press on!

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians‬ ‭3:12-14‬)

As Paul laments in the passage above, I too do not have this life figured out. In no way am I perfect of have “arrived”. But what I do have is a longing for Jesus to be near in my everyday. I push and press that Christ may show up for me, my family, and our community. The prize my heart seeks Saturday is high fives and fist bumps from guys I truly care about. The only “medal” I desire around my neck will come in the form of hugs from my wife and daughters.

May we all begin to look heavenward. May we see and feel Jesus. I pray that you would push and press today! The race is so worth it! Get up and go friends!
