7 Mile Challenge

This past Sunday I shared a message from Luke 24 (AHBC Sunday). The couple in the story walked back to Emmaus after spending time in Jerusalem. They were broken, discouraged, and completely bummed out. Just days earlier, excitement filled the air as they and other followers saw and felt that Jesus was going to lead them to victory as their earthly king. This was not the plan Jesus had. Jesus died on the cross and now, no one can find his body!

While on the road Jesus shows up and walks with these two. Jesus calls them fools and begins to point out in scripture what was said of The Messiah. They didn’t even realize that it was him and yet Jesus was warming their hearts. As the three of them sit at the table Jesus reveals himself and then disappears! What an incredible encounter. What a huge moment for these two and for us as we read and study Luke 24.

Today, its our turn! I challenge all of us to what I am calling “The Seven Mile Challenge”. This challenge calls us to get up and get outside while drawing into God’s Word. I know that we are living in days where we are supposed to be “distancing” ourselves from other people, but do not do this challenge alone!

Step One: Walk, run, or bike one mile a day for seven days straight. Invite your spouse, your kids, another family member, or maybe even a neighbor.

Step Two: Focus on these “Mile Markers”:

  • Mile 1 - “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35, 41, 48, 51)

  • Mile 2 - “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12)

  • Mile 3 - “I am the door of the sheep” (John 10:7,9)

  • Mile 4 - “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25 / Just read all of John 11)

  • Mile 5 - “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11, 14)

  • Mile 6 - “I am the way, the truth, the life” (John 14:6)

  • Mile 7 - “I am the true vine” (John 15:1,5)

These miles are preparing us for Step 3!
I will fill you in on Step 3 later.
Ok, now stop reading and go!
